ABSTRACT

The issue of refugees and their settlement has raised many debates in contemporary world politics. Displacement of people at mass level for various reasons has led to many problems, both for the refugees themselves, as well as the countries that are hosting them. In Malaysia refugees, especially the young refugees are at high risk due lack of interest from the government bodies and appropriate policies and procedures. The paper aims to high light the challenges faced by refugees in Malaysia and the situation of them in the country and role of SUKA society in Malaysia for development of those refugees. As well as role of other NGOs like UNHCR and the need that what should be done next is discussed in the paper.

Introduction

Refugees are individuals who forcibly leave their homes and seek refuge in some other country. Under the convention of united nation relating to the status for refugees of, a refugee refers to a person who owing to the fear of persecution for the reason of religion, race, membership, nationality of a particular group, or political opinion. The concept of asylum seeker is similar to refugee. It refers to someone who leaves his country for safety, for political reason or due to war, these people travel to another country hoping that the government will protect them and let them live there. This paper discusses the process which cerate refugees and asylum seekers, the social workers support and a brief detail of the steps of United Kingdom in protecting the rights of refugees and providing them learning, and economical support.

Challenges Faced by Refugees

The conditions of refugees in different countries are different. As far as Malaysia is concern, no camps for refugee are there in Malaysia, no officially permitted standing for them and no complete arrangement for delivering assistance to refugees. In Malaysia, refugees survive as best they are capable of as unlawful immigrants, sometimes in rather desperate and insecure conditions.

Maybe the mission of delegation is best detained in a remark by an old refugee in a camp in Malaysia. He observed that several visits have been made by worldwide delegations at his camp during 7 years period of time where his family and he himself had been living, but no improvement in the livelihood circumstances of the refugees had been made in this site. After that he stated, “Rather than quenching our thirst with a glass of water, please provide us the shade of a tree, for it is longer lasting.” The delegation left from this camp and as of the communication with further refugee camps visited intensely dedicated to insistently encouraging long-lasting ways out for those refugees who have lost too much and have been languished in extremely complex ...
