“What would Emirates select, A350s or the B787 for its Regional Network operations”

Introduction

To be able to answer the question of selecting an Airbus A350 or the Boeing B787 for Emirates for their regional network operations, it is important to understand the working of the airline, and the specification of all both the above mentioned aircrafts. With a fleet of over 160 aircraft, Emirates now flies to over 100 destinations in 66 countries around the world, and its network is constantly expanding. Each week more than a thousand flights depart from Dubai to destinations across six continents. Emirates have more than 40 percent of all incoming and outgoing flights from Dubai International Airport. In recent years, Emirates has announced several new about the future of its fleet already consists of modern aircraft. The aviation sector makes a substantial contribution to Dubai's economy. Dubai's aviation sector is defined as the Airport Operator, Dubai Airports, Ground Handling Company and the Passenger and Cargo Services provided by all the airlines operating out of Dubai International. Emirates being one of the main airlines within the region, it has growth plans in its fleet that will satisfy all those regional, short and standard flights routes (Norris, G., & Wagner, M. Pp. 13).

Airbus A350

The Airbus A350 is a next generation long-haul airliner with the capability to carry a medium load of passengers and is made by the European manufacturer Airbus. Originally known as A350, it would be a model derived from the family of A330 and A340, however, following the remarks of the airlines that used the plane, it was decided in mid-July 2006 to review the concept and bring a wider fuselage, which can be compared to both the A330 and A340, and especially be compared to its main competitor, the Boeing 787. The Airbus A350 is a revised version of the Airbus A330-200, scheduled to increase the range and reduce operating costs (Important because of higher fuel costs). Airbus is developing it as a competitor to Boeing 787.

The launch of the A350 project is not without controversy, as it is in the center of a trade dispute between the United States. The industrial development of the A350 is divided into work packages assigned to the various national units of Airbus, as well as supplementary aviation businesses. It then has two versions, the A350-800 and A350-900, capable of carrying 250 to 300 passengers on non-stop steps of 13 900-16 300 km. These first two versions of the A350 are very close to the A330: having the same aluminum frame, same size, except for the 900 version which is1.60 meters longer than the A330-300 (Lannois, P. Pp. 66).
