Introduction

The book life and works of William Carey has been penned down by Timothy George. George has been serving in the “Beeson Divinity School of Samford University' as the dean of the school. He has been serving at the same position since 1988. Before George could have been posted to this position, he completed his bachelor's degree and associate degree from Chattanooga at the University of Tennessee. After completing his bachelor's degree, he forwarded to achieve his master's degree which he received from Harvard University. He attained his master's degree in the subject of Divinity and Doctor of Theology. George is an intellectual and knowledgeable person who has written over twenty books and scholarly journals. He is a Baptist Christian who are comprised of various and churches and denominations that are subscribed to a particular doctrine. Not only has this, but George is also working as a professor at church theology and history. George is currently living in Alabama, Birmingham; he is married to Denise who bored him two children.

The main purpose of writing the book by Timothy George was to disclose his life which was very much balanced and was complied with the cultural, political and thological issues and was also engulfed with the mission movements of the modern society.

Summary

The story is an engrossing story written on a life of a man who is of a very humble personality. His life starts from a very humble perspective and goes on to show how this man poured down his life for the service of God and did missionary works throughout his life to satisfy his God.

However, the book begins by talking about the humble beginnings of Carey and his life from this point. It shows how he made some missionary plans to be carried out in India but unfortunately received a setback on it. The author then carries the reader back to the childhood of Carey and how he worked through his child hood to achieve what he has achieved today through al the struggle that he had to face not only from his personal point of view but also financially. Carey has been born in a weaver's family in the eighteen century in England. Carey's father worked as a clerk in the Church of England and that was the only way his father worked hard to earn for Carey's education so he could learn how to read and write like all other children. However, Carey did learn how to read and write and not only that but he also learned Latin and later on learned Greek too. As we go further, people might think that Carey led his life in a very peaceful manner but the truth was totally different. In this book Carey showed that how a Christian can still move on with difficulties in life.
