Introduction

One of the great David Lynch films in which obsessions are reflected best is 'Blue Velvet'. This unique work contains such visual richness that deserves to be analyzed frame by frame. This article does not intend to reach a deep level of understanding, however. I'll settle for offering a subtle touches of complexity that holds the film in all its layers.

The opening sequence is imbued with great symbolism. In a concise and precise assembly, we are shown a clear blue sky. Then the camera slowly descends into a pan that leads to a fence of a garden and a wildflower growing strong and healthy. Here we see, in slow motion, a fire truck that appears headed to suffocate any fire, but, on the contrary, the feeling of walking the road with the parsimony own parade. One detail that helps to reinforce this view is that the crew greet neighbors with faces flooded with happiness. Then, the camera, which is both the massive hand of director and the viewer's eye-enters the house behind the fences mentioned above. We see a man of advanced age watering the flowerbed with great tranquility, as if it were any given Sunday morning (Shattuc, 1992).

Avatar is one of the most successful movies of its time, directed by the legendary director James Cameron, the same person who brought us the epic movie 'Titanic'. To give a brief synopsis of the movie, it shows the story of a person who is recruited for a mission to another planet where a special element is found, that is worth millions on Earth. When reaching the new planet, the actor falls in love with a 'person' from that planet and realizes that the mission is rather like an invasion and the process of recovering that element would mean destroying the homes of thousands of Urukai (the people living on that planet). Additionally, the people of those planets are blue in color and different from the people living on Earth and to be able to mix and mingle with them, the humans create special 'Avatars' which they can control using their mind (Elsaesser, 2011).

Avatar is a film of science fiction American in 2009 , written, produced and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington , Zoe Saldana , Sigourney Weaver , Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez.
