The authors of the article “Posttraumatic Growth among Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Amputees” have focused on portraying the concept of the existence of growth resultant from Posttraumatic stress between Operation Iraqi Freedom Amputees and Operation Enduring Freedom. The research has been conducted in an effective by the researchers in order to make sure that there is no involvement of biasness and any other factor that could have affected the results that have been derived from the study.

RESEARCH PROBLEM AND PURPOSE

Problem Statement

“No published studies, however, have examined PTG in OEF and OIF amputees” (Benetato, 2011, 414, pp. 63-65).

Purpose Statement

“The purpose of this study was to explore PTG in American service members from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan” (Benetato, 2011, 413).

Significance and Relevance of the study to Nursing

It is significant and relevant to nursing in that nurses must understand the correlation between PTG, rumination, and social support. Knowing how these are related will allow the nurse to better treat the patient with an amputation by being supportive and allowing the patient to talk about their feelings and thoughts of the traumatic event thereby facilitating their recovery.

Feasibility of the Study

Unfortunately this day and age allows for many potential amputee subjects to be readily available due to the increased hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan. This study in particular had 415 potential candidates and 210 were identified as viable subjects. The financial commitment appeared to be low . Surveys with prepaid return envelopes were sent out to each of the identified serviced members. This allowed the study to be conducted without any special equipment or the need of a particular facility. Even though each armed service member was mailed the survey directly there was no indication their names were ever revealed which is in line with current HIPPA guidelines. Moreover, in order to make sure that ethics in relation to research practices were being observed, an informed consent was taken as an essential part of the complete research work. The only harm done was potentially as a result of bringing up a sensitive topic. Therefore, in my opinion this study was carried out ethically. The author of this study is a PHD and FNP-BC, which makes her more than qualified to do this research since she has had the specific training required for such a task (Benetato, 2011, 413).

LITERATURE REVIEW

Posttraumatic Growth

Traumatic events bring people a lot of suffering and pain. But we should not forget that as a result of overcoming the traumatic circumstances of a person's life can change for the better. Such changes in psychology are called "post-traumatic growth." Posttraumatic growth describes the experiences and experiences of people whose development, at least in some areas after injury exceeded that which was before the injury. The man not only survived, but his life appeared important from his point of view of the positive changes that were released outside the state of things in existence. This is not a return to his former life, to how it was ...
