Introduction to Assignment

This article compares the methodological approaches undertaken by the authors from four peer reviewed tourism journal articles, considering the research paradigms, underlying principles and different epistemological, ontological and methodological worldviews underpinning each perspective. We will refer to the concepts that have mainly discussed in the article to reinforce our viewpoints about each perspective.

The multiple manifestations of tourism are now a subject of research that the investigation is no longer confidential. They open to multiple cross-fertilization, the circulation of ideas is not a new emerging discipline, but an "episteme" and "tourism studies" is the place of intersection of multiple disciplinary approaches.

Introduction to Article: 01

Our first article “In The Line Of Fire: The Challenges Of Managing Tourism Operations In The Victorian Alps”, written by Dale Sanders and Jennifer Laing is a depiction of the impact of bushfires on the national parks in Australia. The article contends that media promotes negativity about the bushfires, while these does not have a substantial effect on the national parks at all (Sanders, Laing, 2010, p. 223-236). The article utilized various research paradigms to understand the impact of media coverage and its possible outcomes on the development and progress of the tourism in Australia.

A visit to Falls Creek, Mt. Hotham, Dinner Plain, and Mt. Buller was made to develop an understanding about the impact of bushfires, and to gauge whether or not the role of the media in this regard.
