Introduction

Coherence is a very important quality of writing. It is defined as the quality that is assigned to the writing by the readers in a way that it represents the accuracy of the features of component with reference to the phenomenology in which the reader is living. The most important requirement for coherence is the presentation in s logical sequence. Most of the people especially the students who learn English as their second language face problem in coherence writing23.

They have difficulty to produce a discourse that is significantly coherent. These students lack the skills and the competence in writing coherent topics. The students of learning language should know the way in which all parts of a paragraph are bound together in proper arrangement to achieve a good quality of coherence. In coherence writing, the sentences should have the characteristics if having sentence strength which is that the sentences need short as they are more effective. The use of prepositions like almost or only should be carefully done; they should be placed before what they are modifying. The modifiers should be used in a way that they are placed after phrases11. The sentences should be highly competent in grammar, in mixed construction the joining of noun and adverbial phrase is done by the verb to be. The sentence will become incoherent when the clause will not be expressing the subject relation in a logical manner. The verbs should not be changed without any reason if it causes error in the unity of sentence23.

The people that learn English as their second language face many problems in learning. This problem is mainly due to the vast difference in the language that they know and they are learning. They face problems in coherent writing. Therefore, this research paper is focused on highlighting a very important part of coherence writing which is the use of verb to be and the problem that the Saudi students face because of it.

It is one of the most important methods of research in second language acquisition. The process of second learning acquisition is filled with mistakes. The learners create many errors during their learning and practice of new language. But these errors are inevitable and without them, the acquisition of language cannot take place. The error analysis helps the people in changing their attitude towards errors and also helps the learners in understanding the nature and process of second language learning. These errors do not lead to failure. In fact the errors provide the learners with the opportunity to understand the language rules and develop their language ability.
