Abstract

This research paper aims to provide significant knowledge about the resiliency among children and various other strategies associated with it. This paper also explains the affects of sexual abuse in adolescents and recommends numerous suggestions for eliminating it. Resiliency in Adolescents Who Experience Sexual Abuse

Introduction

Sexual abuse among children is an important issue throughout the world and in the USA as well. There are various reasons behind child sexual abuse but these reasons are still under reporting. This problem gives rise to many other psychological and physical problems in children. This problem needs to give proper attention and implement such laws which can eliminate this thing from the society. Sometimes, it happens that children who experience sexual abuse may face mental retardation (Walker et al, 2012). These problems also include depression, low self esteem, no social life, anxiety and lack of social support among children.

Adolescence is defined as a stage between child hood and adult hood. Children in between this stage are more victims t6o the child abuse. Resilience on the other hand defined as the ability of the children to compete with various circumstances of life. The topic of this paper “Resiliency in adult children who experience sexual abuse” is an important issue which needs consideration. It has been observed that resilient adolescent's can very well coping up with the tough strategies of life as compared to that adolescence that are vulnerable. The researchers have found out that the abuse children and adolescence should be given proper treatment and rehabilitation care that they can face the hardships of life.

History of Resilience

There are numerous researches in the history which reveals that resiliency in children who experience sexual abuse has positive effects on their life. It has been observed that there are always negative effects of the sexual abuse on children but there are some individual who face these challenges and behave like normal children after sexual abuse (Breno & Galupo, 2007). Studies discussed that recovery process among children after sexual abuse can make them strong and they observe positive changes in their personality. A post-traumatic growth model suggests that victims of sexual abuse can bring back to their normal life by providing them with the proper treatment. This model includes examining the social, psychological, cognitive and physical factors related to the vulnerable individual. The process of post traumatic growth also supports the resilience in children and provides the evidence that resilience can survive many children from adverse kinds of trauma. The post traumatic growth model reveals that it is important to consider gender, attachment style, personality dimensions and the time since the adolescence is facing trauma while giving him treatment.
