Gender Differences and Socialization

In psychology of gender - is socially biological characteristics by which people give the definition of the terms "man" and "woman." Social psychologists believe that the two main reasons why people are trying to meet the expectations of gender - is normative and informational pressure. The term "normative pressure" describes the mechanism of how a person is forced to adapt to social and group expectations that society would not rejected him (Stoller, 2005).

The Limitations Imposed by the Traditional Female Role

One of the major constraints of the traditional female role during this time is the fact that working women continue to bear the burden of household chores and responsibility for children.

Compared with their wives, black men make 40% of household work, white males - 34%, and the men of Hispanic origin - 36%. A female employee performs an average of 69% of the work on the house (Byrne, 2007). Increase in the proportion of time that women devote work, only led to a slight reduction in their domestic responsibilities and the amount of time lost their child care and does remain unchanged.

At work, women are generally lower in status than men. Most of the prestigious profession in our society is occupied by men scientists, doctors, and university professors. There is some evidence of lower power of women in their organizations than men. Women are much less likely to occupy positions that offer control over resources and the definition of what goals the firm will pursue and in what way. This is partly because the male gender stereotypes include more qualities that are considered necessary to gain and retain power. Therefore, men seem to be more suitable for leadership roles.

The woman tried to make a career sometimes faced with the phenomenon of a "glass ceiling" This metaphor expresses the fact that in some organizations there is a sort of invisible ceiling above which the women cannot get by. Conventional thinking, suggesting that men are much better leaders than women in part responsible for the existence of a "glass ceiling."

Another challenge of working women is that they are working at home a little more than their working husbands, leading to a break in the time of rest (Byrne, 2007).

Housewife also has many problems. Most of them cannot meet their social needs. In addition, most social scientists agree that a woman who earns money, the house enjoys more power.

Many of us grew up with the idea that everyone in this life deserves what one gets and gets what he deserves. We need to believe that this is the case, otherwise we will have to do something to fight injustice or feel guilty and uncomfortable meeting with undue discrimination, so we close our eyes and continue to believe that nothing bad will happen to us if we are right behave.
