John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Givings. Mrs. Givings was the realtor who got Frank and April their house on the Revolutionary Road. John is a very blunt and straightforward person who never cares about anyone or anything around and is ill mannerd . He says the rudest things in the most casual manner, least bothered what the other person going to feel or think. His character was supposed to be that overly critical about everything. He had his own way of telling the truth and not being afraid of anybody.

In the movie, John is so critical to the couple, Frank and April. When they first moved in their new house in the suburbs area, it was him only who gave the couple heads up what is really in stored for them in their new lives. John Givings says to Frank: “You want to play house you got to have a job. You want to play nice house, very sweet house, you got to have a job you don't like.” He knew all along what is going to lack in Frank and April's lives as they moved to the suburbs. When April got pregnant the third time and John visited the Wheelers with his parents, he again passed some sarcastic comments on the news of their third baby being born. “The hopeless emptiness? Now, you've said it. Plenty of people are onto the emptiness, but it takes real guts to see the hopelessness.”

Although John Givings was mentally unstable and was getting electrocuted at the asylum. When the Wheelers told him that they are leaving that place and planning to move to Paris, it was John only who appreciated and agreed with them that it really took a real brave man to realize all this on time and ...
