Part A

A1. Bill Bailey

Utah Opera Organization chairperson Bill Bailey is very positive regarding the merger of Opera and the Symphony Orchestra but at the same time is concerned about the identity of Opera, as he believes that Opera will be able to become the top-tier arts company but at the same time will lose its identity. Bill Bailey perhaps uses the theory of motivation presented by John Stacey Adams “Equity Theory” for supporting the merger. This theory is related to relational satisfaction. The focus of this theory is on explaining the process through which internal factors and cognitions determine motivation of the employees. The reason for suggesting this theory is due to the balance and imbalance, which exists between input and output of the employees. Bill Bailey believes that the employees have worked along with the company and deserting employees at this time will be no good to the company. Thus, he opted for merger because it will be increasing the level of company in the market as the company will be amongst the top tier company and will be able to compensate the employees in a better way for what they have provided to the company (Kreitner R., & Kinick A., 2010).

For employees, equity exits when they experience their perceived outcome ratio to input is equivalent to the portion of out-come to inputs for same co-workers. Employee desire to increase return or out of the employer which should be based on the input they made for their job performance. The last component of this theory is Interactional Justice, and through this, people experience and feel that they are treated fairly when new procedures are put into practice. In order to accomplish this, managers need to communicate truthfully to their employees and treating their people with courtesy and respect (mindtools).

Equity theory plays a vital role in motivating the employees. Employees seek motivation in all aspects believing that they will rewarded for the inputs they provide for business sustenance and then rewards they get in return. Through identifying that people or employees comprises of unstable sensitivities to alleged equity and inequity and via recognizing that inequity could be declined in numerous ways, Bill Bailey could assist in supporting the merger. What he needs to do here is that, he should highlight the ability of merger to platform a climate for justice and hence, he would be competent to influences organizational commitment of employees along with the employees' job satisfaction (Ager, Delong 2005).

A2. Scott Parker

Scott Parker chairperson of Utah Symphony Organization supports the merger due to the reason that Orchestra might face financial deficit in near years. The theory that might be used by Scott Parker is Expectancy Theory proposed by Victor Vroom. This theory also a part of process theories of motivation, which can be beneficial in convincing Mrs. Abravanel for merger support. Expectancy Theory refers to the behavior selection motivation, which is determined through the outcome desirability. The ultimate aim of the theme has ...
