Will Robots Ever Take Over the World?

Introduction

The rise in technology has made the people living in the 21st century very fortunate. Several creations by the Artificial Intelligence also known as the A.I have made human life easier to such an extent that this situation predicts that in future the robots will take over the world. The term Artificial Intelligence is related to computer science and is one of its branches. It usually deals with problem solving of matters creatively by writing computer programs. It has been predicted that in near future robots will make up some percentage of the population and have influence on every aspect of human life (Serenko & Detlor, 2004, pp. 369). There is no fixed definition for the term robot, but by general understanding and agreement it could be said that robots are programmable machines, that closely imitate the appearance or actions of an intelligent and smart creature, usually a human. For any machine to qualify as an efficient robot has to be capable to get information from the surrounding and react over it physically.

Discussion

Since the 1950's, people have only heard about robots and seen them in science fiction stories and movies and in the past did not consider it to be reality. The idea of robots was just perceived as a dream that will never come true until the first creation of the robot in the year 1954 by George Devol and Joseph Engelberger. This creation was a landmark in the field of technology as it changed the perception of many people who did not believe in the advancement of science and technology. This first creation was then followed by a series of different robots produced by various inventors. Initially the inventor use to design robots that would specify in one task but with the passage of time many new inventions were observed that offered wide range of skills.

Recently many economies are moving towards recession and it is argued by many people that the main reason why economies are moving towards recession is due to the poor standard of living (Pistono, 2012, pp. n.d.). The use of excessive machinery and robots in the field of production and manufacturing has led to an increase in the level of unemployment. The replacement of labour force with machinery has made many employees redundant which had led to their dismissal. With a negative impact of robots on human employment it has also been said that someday robots will take the entire human job. On the contrary is argued that advancement in technology indicates the intelligence of the people of the 21st century, as it is one of the main factors that indicate the improvement and advancement in human thinking and knowledge.

Dependency rate of humans on automation and robots has increased rapidly in comparison with the past. Their influence on human's daily life has become very obvious. The reason why there has been an increase in demand for such mechanism ...
