Rock n Roll

Introduction

The rock and roll music some time written as Rock & Roll, or even Rock n Roll, is a genre of popular music that evolved in the Southern United States in the 1950s. The influence of this music type is phenomenal, and it largely came out as a resultant of economic, technological, demographic and social changes. The period after World War II and the American prosperity in that period played an important role in the upbringing of Rock n Roll which was later termed as Rock Music or simply as rock. This music proved to be a platform for black and white teenagers to demark the lines created by their elders and build the foundation of empathy and trust towards each other in the face of new America. The music added five stars to the popularity of Music with increasing usage of new electrical instruments.

Background

The rock and roll is basically a genre of popular music that evolved in the United States as a result of social and cultural diffusion in the late 1940s and 1950s (Farley, 2004). The Merriam-Webster Dictionary and American heritage Dictionary both define rock music as synonymous with the Rock (Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, 2008; The American Heritage Dictionary, 2008). The Britannica Encyclopedia regards rock n Roll as the music that evolved in the 190s and developed into more encompassing international style known as the rock music (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012).

In the early times, the rock n roll used mostly saxophones and piano as leading musical instruments. However, these were generally supplemented by guitar in the late 1950s. Rock n roll is more than just a genre of popular music; it influenced the lifestyle, attitude, and fashion, of people. The Rock n Roll is simply referred to as rock music or just rock today.

Rock and Roll is primarily a combination of African American Blues, Gospel Music, and jazz. The changes that occurred in the social and economic realm in America during World War II, contributed to the birth of Rock n Roll (Aquila, pp. 4-6). The America was dominated by Jazz Brands before war. These groups were broken after the war, and stared their own small groups which used to play electric guitars, saxophones, harmonicas, and drums.
