Introduction

Breast cancer is one of the major problems that affect up to eight percent of the women throughout their lives. The major dilemma with this problem is that the there are more chances that these women lose their lives due to this disease. The increase in the rate of breast cancer and the emotional and psychological traumas that these women suffer due this disease is more when they survived and have to face situations like this. “Between 25,000 and 30,000 new cases are diagnosed annually.” (Gómez-Hernández et.al, 2010, p.1). Those who survived they feel lucky for having their lives back but after sometimes they feel like losing such a part of their body is like losing half womanhood for rest of their lives. There are more advancements in the technique of resolving problems associated with the breast cancer, the main reason for this concern is that the breast cancer is the form of cancer which not only affects women physically but emotionally, psychologically and socially as well. Breast cancer organization also addressed the issues with the women affected with the cancer. Dr. Maria Weiss voiced these issues faced by the women after their therapy and mastectomy (breastcancer.org). She addressed problems with their future social and sex life, pregnancy, and other problems faced by these women (Weiss & Weiss, 1998). One of the major problems which these women have, it is to adjust with their new and changed body without breasts. The loss becomes deep with the problem mainly with their dresses. This became a major issue when a woman need to get to her normal life and she need to take swimming for her fitness and the swim suit become a big problem. The dress code for women, size, and irritation with the cloth material and different other issues raise a problem to be allowed to swim topless. This raised a major argument about whether these women should be allowed to swim topless or not. This is not a simple matter but it involves various ethical and social issues associated with it.

Thesis Statement

Women after surviving breast cancer face serious difficulty to mange with their changed body socially, physically and psychologically, do they allowed to swim topless after removing their breasts.

Discussion

It is one the major ethical and moral concern of the society that women are not allowed to be topless. This is the most unethical thing to say or to listen, if women consider it as her right especially at a public place where there are children. It is against the moral and social point of view but the answer to that objection is that what about those women who cannot wear top due to irritation after their breast removal. This raised the issue between two views one who were in favor of this concept that women after this surgery must be allowed to swim topless in which most of the women were those who have the same problem.
