Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to discuss the theory and explanation of phenomenology and identify the role of phenomenology in media psychology. Logical Investigations, by Edmund Husserl (1900-01), launched Phenomenology. Phenomenology, as a discipline that is defined as the study of consciousness or experience, as structures. Media Psychology is said to be the way via which an individual tends to seek an understanding on the way people perceive, the way people interpret and the way people use and respond to a media-rich world. Media Psychology tends to focus on media an effect that is the effects of media on the viewers and the formation of first impression. The focus is on the effect of media on human belief and thought is called media psychology. People who view it, make their own interpretation and phenomena depending upon their, psychodynamic, behavioral, motivational and existential perspective. Based on the research and analysis, Media tends to play with the psychology of individuals and controls the spheres of activity of an individual. These factors tend to interact with the mind and body of an individual. The way an individual encounters the world and tends to avail the numerous affordances as well prospects that the world has to offer based on the perception that one forms. I also believe in the fact that one has to ensure that one operates on facts rather than trusting blindly on the content that the media has to offer. Trusting everything that media has to offer and forming a perception instantly without giving it, a second thought eventually leads to the distorted self-image and image about the world.

The consciousness experiences from the point of view of first person are studied under phenomenology (Brentano, 1995). The characteristics of phenomenology constitute the concept of intentionality. Intentionality can be termed as a quality that is said to be unique to consciousness and in turn aids in distinguishing from materials that are a conscious. A cliché aspect to the older discussions of phenomenology is the concept of mind and body dualism. It emphasizes the fact that the psychical acts are different from physical acts, which was later contradicted.

Experience can be defined as the mid-structure of intentionality. It ...
