Introduction

The President of the United States is often referred to as the most powerful man in the world. Domestically, its influence is limited by the checks and balances of government, Congress and Supreme Court. However, his responsibilities also include ensuring national security as the supreme commander of the armed forces of the country. No doubt, Hollywood has been producing many movies on political and patriotic subjects (Rollins & O'Conner, 2005). However, the movie AirForce One of Director Wolfgang Petersen played a significant role in making a common people realized about the role of American President. The movie presents a dynamic role of President Marshall which was not only aligned with the laws of the country but also demonstrated the true job of a President (Coyne, 2008). However, in order to better understand the role of President Marshall in the movie, it is vital to know the responsibilities and duties of the President of the United States of America.

Discussion

The president is commander in chief of the armed forces and the National Guard of the states where they are in use for the federal government. Although the right to declare war under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution is entitled to the Congress, the President may grant the troops almost all commands provided it respects certain parliamentary rights of control and not formally declared a war (Nelson, 2009). The use of nuclear weapons is decided by the National Command Authority (NCA), which the President and the Defense Minister form together. Both have independently vote for a bet, each of the two can have a veto.
