Introduction

The roman art was progressed during the time period of 500- 31 B.C.E under the republic of Rome and official senate who contributed in the development of roman art. The republic of Rome had a tendency to absorb everything from the civilization to the art and the literature of the history. This is the reason that the art and craft was developed and enhanced during the time period of the roman republic. There were four ruling emperors in the roman imperial system whose work is considered to be the most effective in the formation of history in the field of arts. The message they hold for the public and the method in which it was packaged to create a lasting impact on the minds of people. This paper specifically discusses the art work of the roman emperor Constantine. It analyzes the public work, portrait art work, eclectic nature of roman imperial art and the artistic traditions during the era of Constantine.

Artistic Campaigns of Roman Emperors

The roman imperial system is considered to be the main contributor of the formation of civilization and art in the history. The Roman Empire began in 31 B.C.E with the rule of Augustus. The period of Augustus Caesar is considered as the golden period of the Roman Empire. Augustus defined the portrait image of the early Roman Empire and his period contributed to the development of early imperial art. The Vespasian era followed the time period of Augustus and contributed to the similar cause of development of arts and architecture in the roman imperial system that was present in the roman republic. Vespasian worked for the revival of the golden age of arts considered to be the republican model.
