Safety in Workshop

Introduction

Each organization in which we are working follow some standards of safety. There are always potential hazards present in each engineering works especially mechanical and auto mechanical works. Big organizations tend to focus on safety issues as it is the biggest assets of the company's policy. Several companies get enormous tenders by showing safety policies in their slogans. Several companies like Shell make slogans like “If you not choose safety, you do not require working with Shell”. Organizations tend to hire safety skills workers in order to see the safety standards of the company as well as to prevent the company in meeting any potential hazard. Safety is the best thing to follow in order to avoid any risk which can create a potential hazard in the near future.

Any uncertainty or risk should be prevented earlier by the barriers. There are certain barriers, which stop the occurrence of risk. Occurrence of risks and probability will create a potential hazard. These hazards affect the company's reputation. Each company focuses to achieve its goals and these hazards may create barriers in order to accomplish desired goals. There are always mechanical workshops in each organization which is also following the safety standards of the company. The risk of potential hazards is more in a workshop or workplace than any other place in an organization. There are many works going simultaneously in a workshop such as welding works, gas cutting, electrical works, hammering and other works. If proper safety standards are not followed by the labour and foremen, it will create trouble for them as well as for the company. The works, which are carried in the automotive industry or automotive workshop, are mostly linked with plants, powered tools and hand tools, hazardous substances and dangerous goods, confined spaces, manual handling, slips, trips and falls, and noise.

Workers have to perform jobs such as repairing and overhauling engines, changing tyres, degreasing vehicle parts, replacing and removing certain parts, welding of leaking objects such as hose and radiators, and panel beating.

In plants, there is a lot of work on hoists; labour has to work beneath the vehicle. The whole work is to be carried out with safety. The repair work should be done on a weekly basis. It also depends on the maintenance and supervision of the company. Routine checking and maintenance works should be carried out within three months.

Airs compressors are dangerous to use as it suddenly blow the air which can access our nostrils and can cause injury. Asbestos are also used in some vehicles, and there is the chance that asbestos may be present in whole workshop. These fibres are present in the air and when air blow from the compressors can intake by the workers. There may be some hazards like moving of vehicles when worker is beneath the vehicle.
