Cognitive Approach

There are three defining features of the social cognitive approach. The first feature is the principle of reciprocal determinism or reciprocal interactionism. Social and personal settings are considered as reciprocally interacting systems. The environments of the socio cultural contribute to the growth and maturity of the structures of personality. In turn, the personality factors partially conclude that which environments the humans experience and how they understand the socio cultural settings they meet.

In the social cognitive approach, the second defining feature is the elements of analysis. By these elements, the cognitive approach conceptualizes the functioning of the personality and the differences between the humans. The comprehension of the personality is done by the reference to the fundamental affective and cognitive processes and structures. These variables and changeable of cognitive and affective processes have the social foundations on the personality. This means that these variables are developed and grown up through the experiences with socio cultural environments of humans.

This theory distinguishes between various separate cognitive abilities that add to the functioning of personality. These abilities consists of the cognitive mechanisms that lie beneath the social competencies and skills, structures of knowledge through which the humans understand or encode the scenarios and conditions.

The relation of humans to the social environment and self authoritarian procedures through which the humans develop personal aims and principles for the performance and inspire themselves to attain the preferred end are also included.

The third feature of the social cognitive approach is that it deals the personality as a dynamic and intricate system. Personality is a system of energetically interrelating affective and social cognitive procedures. Personality can be comprehended by assessing the fundamental elements and the interrelations between these elements (Cervone, et al. 2001, pp. 34-35).
