The Accuracy of Sensory Perceptions and the Factors affecting them

Introduction

Humans have five senses, namely, sense of touch, smell, taste, hearing and sight, which he or she uses for sensory perceptions. Sensory perceptions of different people vary because the receptiveness and sensitivity of their sensual organs is different. In this assignment, I am going to analyze whether sensory perceptions of people are accurate or inaccurate, and will highlight the factors that contribute to the accuracy of sensory information and critical thinking abilities.

Sensory Perceptions

Sensory perception is the understanding that a person gets through taking, processing and decoding the stimuli sent by the human brain. The way we see the world depends on our sensory perceptions. Therefore, the perceptions of different people vary depending on the sensory stimuli sent by his or her brain.

Reasons for the inaccuracy of sensory perceptions

Limited Amount of Information

Our brain can only store a limited amount of information. Our comprehension about the real world is limited to the information that we have discovered and stored. The senses of different species vary. Information about the sensitivity of other species and their receptive abilities is beyond the reach of the human mind. For instance; bees can see the infrared rays, dogs can smell the human scent, owl can see in the dark. However, human senses cannot interpret these stimuli. Therefore, we cannot say that the sensory perceptions are same and accurate for everyone.

Senses of Different People Vary

The sensory perceptions of different people are also different. A person who is deaf is different from normal human beings. Therefore, the perception and interpretation of his environment will vary. For instance, a person whose eye sight is weak cannot see as clearly as the person whose eyesight is perfect. Therefore, both ...
