Affirmative action arose because in the United States there is a history of discrimination against non-white ethnic groups had, especially against African Americans. Until the 1950s there were laws that promoted segregation. At the same time, enlightened people had to stop and reverse the wish that discrimination and segregation (Rubio, 2009). Those who have been discriminated against should get the chance to catch up. With the increasing trend of immigrants in the country, it is important to have such laws in place in order to combat discrimination.
