Social Norm and Corruption

Introduction

Corruption is a practice that can occur in practice, regardless of the form of government. The level of corruption can be very different, from minor cases of the use of influence or to deliver a favor or giving favors to rule by thieves, where they abandons even the external appearance of fairness. The corruption can be found both in the offices of politicians and officials. Often it is related to drug trafficking, prostitution, earning illegal money, but it is not only limited to these words in fact it much more brief (Parikshit, 2006). To understand the problem and find effective remedies must be separated in the analysis of crime and corruption.

Societies are built on their norms and value systems and this is one factor which plays an important part in the growth of a society. By looking at this criterion one can say that it is fairly useless to say but it happens. Economic factor is major part for the growth of a society or a country but value systems and norms related is equally important. A well behaved society can certainly reduces the extra costs of government which makes the government to save that money and can spend it for other purposes. One example which will clear this confusion to a great extent i.e. in a society where there is a serious law and order problem, the government had to waste a huge amount of money to get the society work in a better way. If the society was well behaved according to its values and norms that huge amount could be saved and can be spent on other welfare projects and it is fairly clear that the welfare of the society certainly increases its growth. This is only example where the values and value systems can work for the betterment of a society. There are other various factors involved for the welfare of a society which include values and value systems other than the law and order problem i.e. bribery, Embezzlement, Fraud, Extortion, Favoritism, Nepotism, Impersonation, plagiarism, Political corruption and bureaucratic corruption etc which directly related to corruption. This can be concluded that the corruption is directly involved in distracting the value systems or we can say that corruption or bypassing the value systems are no different terminologies. The above mentioned factors are briefly explained below:

Fraud

Attempting to fraud with someone is an economic crime that certainly involves some kind of or purely swindle, trickery or deceit. This is a crime which is very common in societies even in developed societies as well. People do not realizing that the act they are doing is a fraud and doing it continuously. In fact, the business and marketing strategies, which the companies made for attracting the customers, are mostly fraud i.e. including some kind of trickery in it which is usually not shown at the time of advertising.
