Design Construction of an Electrical Power Station Using Solar Cells

Introduction

The aim of the project is to generate maximum possible electric power from solar cells in order to make the solar cells efficient as much as possible for generating electricity for the community consist of 5000 residents. The idea for generating maximum output power from the solar cell includes the movement and rotation of solar cell in the direction of sunlight in order to produce efficient output power as much as possible. Load matching approach is also used in order to maximize the power of solar panel. Boost converter will be used at the output of solar panel for boosting up the efficiency and output power of the solar panel.

Environmental Impact

Growing environmental issues and rise in prices of energy are making systems of solar power more and more attractive and useful in today's world. Solar systems assist in reducing high costs of energy and enable our homes running even at the time of power outages. There are many advantages for installing solar systems such as electric bills can be reduced to save money, increase appraisal value of the home, enjoying clean, reliable and free power for around 30 years and solar panels are assisting in boosting up overall economy by the production of new solar companies and jobs. Backup battery can also be utilized for the purpose of storing energy when energy is not available like during hurricanes, storms and other disasters. Solar panels also help in reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oils which is helping in making our environment secure and safe by minimizing greenhouse gases and air pollution. PV i.e. photovoltaic cell is used in converting sunlight into solar electricity. When the photovoltaic cell is exposed to sunlight the electric current flows within the cell in order to generate voltage. Solar systems can satisfy almost all the electricity needs of the home and thus, offsets almost 25-50% of power of homeowners with solar electricity (NREL, 2009).

Commencement of solar energy is from 7th century. In the past times, heat of sun was used to light fires through mirrors and glass. In today's world, we are using solar power from our commercial buildings to vehicles.

Economic Impact

Main commercial/industrial applications of solar energy are given as follows:

Rural electrification by solar energy application

Rural areas electrification by the use of solar energy is incredibly economical as compared to other forms of supply of electricity in rural areas. Grid extension and diesel generators are not the efficient way for electrifying the rural areas. Electrification is provided in rural areas to electrify health care facilities, remote villages and houses and it also integrates power supply for irrigation and water supply treatment.

Water Pumping:

In rural areas, electrification by solar energy is useful for two applications. One application is water supply to village and other application is supply of water for irrigation. About 10000 water pumps based on solar energy are presently operating ...
