FITA Software Quality Assurance

Executive Summary

The quality of a software is not determined just by the number of errors found that are after its delivery, but also by the degree to which the system meets the current needs of an organization. In addition, the current needs of an organization changes by the passage of time. Thus, the actual need for the completion of software is probably different than at the beginning of the project, and a few months or years after the software is put into use, the actual need would undoubtedly be different from the initial delivery. In this paper we are going briefly analyze the Software Quality Assurance strategy implemented by FITA. FITA was established in the year 1949, with the aim providing reliable and cost effective software solutions to fulfill the telecommunications requirements of International Airlines. In last few years FITA has grown into an organization that develops and distributes software for the world's largest private international data communications network on behalf of a community of over 600 airlines and travel-related organizations. In 1996 FITA recognized the importance of fact that in order to develop efficient software it must improve its quality of service in order to concentrate more on user rather than technical requirements and shift its focus from of airline companies, to a service provider for customers. In 1997 major changes were made to the FITAs organizational structure, which were launched, aimed at stimulating extra volumes of business from the commercial market. One of the most recent Software Quality assurance initiatives that were taken by FITA in the year 2004, when they introduced standard software development processes which were based on the templates consisting of the design, and specification documents, along with framework for life-cycle reviews of the software's which were manufactured by the company.

Introduction

The quality of software processes is becoming a strategic part of large organizations because of their strong impact on the competitiveness of enterprises. In the mid 80s there is a new concept under the symbol CMM, Capability Maturity Model, Capability Maturity Model, to the urgent need to improve all that existed around the development of systems engineering and Technology Information which, analysts say, is perceived poor quality of engineering design software. Nobody doubts that the software has become the cornerstone on which rests the most new business models.

Quality assurance is a complex specialty and abundant in methodologies, which requires the expertise of its professionals. The process of Quality assurance lays special emphasis is on process rather than product development. As the maturity of an organization grows, it becomes evident the need to assign a quality management specialist quality engineers (Nagappan, & Ball, 2007, pp.364-373).
