State of Texas Higher Education Funding Problems and Solutions

Introduction

While discussing the future and processes of countries and nations, certain factors have to be discussed and highlight because of their central importance and significance. Among such issues, education is the most prominent one that has to be dealt with effectively, in order to ensure better and secure future of nations. History proves that nations and countries that concentrated on education and made changes to suit the changing times and conditions were better able to survive in the world as compared to others, which did not pay much heed in this direction and thus suffered as a result. It has been observed that the more attention a nation pays to education, the better chances it has of progressing and competing in the tough and competitive environment. Thus, all the modern and developed nations and countries are now paying special attention to education department and more developments are being, to ensure and updated educational institutions.

Discussion

In Texas, higher education holds central importance for the government because of the fact that it is responsible for the provision of competitive and qualified work force, which is essential to survive in today's world. With the advances in information and technology, competition among nations is increasing at an incredible rate and thus qualified work force has to be produced in order to deal with the situation and meet the requirements at the same time. A trained work force is also needed for meeting the local employer demand of skilled and educated employees, and thus the government aims at implementing measures to close the gaps by providing education to maximum number of individuals. However, as with all the other institutions, the education department is also facing some problems, that are highlighted in the following paragraphs:

Problems faced by the state of Texas in funding higher education

Although the state of Texas has made substantial investments in the higher education department, the students are still faced with problems as they have to pay the major share of their educational expenses. The state is unable to provide proper funds to these educational institutions because of a number of reasons, including the differences in their mission and the amount of researches being carried out in these institutions (Luhby, 2011). In addition, the focus on teaching, ability to raise funds from the external sources and the reliance on state funds also varies from one institution to the other. The capacity and ability of institutions to make use of the tuition fees and make up for the funding shortfalls contributes to the difficulties of the state to make adequate findings and thus renders the state unable to ensure proper funding in all the higher education institutions.
