Abstract

By 2020, Depression is likely to happen to one of the largest health problems of world, with women twice as likely as men to go through this diagnosis. Activities of daily life of a person, his general health and quality of life, as a whole are affected by depression. People living with depression possess considerable emotional, financial and social burdens on them. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a gender difference in the correlation between the incidence of depression among elderly minority nursing home residents and self esteem, family support and cultural identity. This paper seeks to settle on a methodology that will be used for survey.

The theoretical framework for carrying on this evaluating study is bore out by a 'social determinants of health' viewpoint which spots that mental health and wellbeing of an individual is determined by its environmental background. This comprises social gradient/class, early life experiences, social support, addiction, employment and working conditions, social inclusion, stress, food, and transport in addition to gender, violence discrimination, and education.

There are an extensive range of elements that affect the sociability and ability of elderly individuals to conform not only to the process of ageing itself but to the resettlement to an elder care community. For example, women and men have a tendency to have alike social integration skills earlier than life in a nursing home but once admitted, women become more sociable than do men (Moen 2001).
