Introduction

The stop and frisk discrimination is a rising issue in today's environment of America. Particularly the New York is found to be victim of stop and frisk discrimination. In stop and frisk discrimination, the people are stopped on the streets by the police personnel and the cloths of people are checked. Many people have lost their lives in resisting against the police though they not any criminal or they had anything in their clothes that is prohibited or that considered against the law.

The Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968), is a decisive step that is taken by the United States Supreme Court in consideration of stop and frisk discrimination. The fourth amendment of the stop and frisk law has imposed the ban upon the unnecessary checking of the people by stopping them in the streets or in the cars. The law has also revealed that the when the police officers try to stop the suspect person, the person has to stop as this be considered as the violation on part of the individual and the police officers are liable to arrest the person with the solid reason of violence against the police. The stop and frisk checking of individuals is carried out by the police in order to reduce the crime in the societies. New York is now a highly populated area where people from many countries are living. The increase in population has increased the crime in the societies. This has increased the stop and frisk procedures in the societies and police officers have taken steps to check the individuals who are suspected to be armed and dangerous for other people in the New York's societies.

At one end the stop and frisk step taken by the police officers is a good step to protect the people in the societies and on the other hand the stop and frisk procedures has made the citizens very helpless. The citizens who are not involved in any crime and who do not have suspicious things and instruments feel ashamed when the police officers stop them and conduct thorough checking of the citizen. The stopping and checking of even the individual's outer cloth creates the less of security and annoying situation for the individual. Many innocent people who have resisted allowing the police officers to do checking of their clothes and belongings have shot dead. Such types of cases are increasing day by day. The step taken the Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968) has bought some reduction in the stop and frisk discrimination.
