CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

3.1. Research Methodology and Its Importance

The search for knowledge is the common parlance of research. In other words, research is a quest for knowledge aimed at the interpretation and discovery of new knowledge through investigation or diligent search. Research is in fact an art of scientific investigation. Of any research study research methodology is a significant element. Generally, different research methodologies are adopted by various researchers to gather all the relevant information significant for the study. Saunders et al (2009) reflected that research methodology of the study is an organized technique in which the information or the data is gathered so that the research hypothesis and research question can be answered or can be proved (p.58). In other words, research methodology is a map or a sketch which helps the researcher in conducting the study in a proper and an organized flow and to gather the required information which can help in answering the set research objectives. Generally, when a researcher intend to conduct a research study they set and define through the establishment of certain research aims and questions which they strive to discover and justify through appropriate answers using the various applications of scientific procedures. In other words, the research using an appropriate research methodology find out the hidden or undiscovered truth which has not been studied or examined before in depth. Bryman (2008) reflected there are several motivations that drive the researcher for doing research (p.1). One of the most common motives for doing research is the desire to be of service to society by doing some creative work and solve some unsolved problems (Bryman, 2008, p.1).

3.1.1. Importance of Research Methodology

In the world all progress is born of inquiry. There is so much confusion around that often doubt is better than overconfidence for it leads to inquiry which further leads to invention of hidden or undiscovered truth or realities. In several fields of studies different research methodologies are adopted by the researcher to solve complex research problems and queries. Moreover, collection of complex and statistical information is by no means a routine task and involves a variety of research problems that could only be nullified through the use appropriate research methodology. Moreover, there are various planning and operational problems during the research that various researcher encounter which are overcome easily through the use of appropriate research methodology that involve a series of organized steps to gather and accumulate the required results significant for the ...
