ABSTRACT

In this study we try to explore the concept of “stroke” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “stroke” and its relation with “united kingdom”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “stroke” and tries to gauge its effect on “its victim and survivor”. The research objectives included what is stroke? What are the after affects of stroke? How quality of life is affected by stroke? What is the stroke survival rate in United Kingdom? The methodology used is the mixed method. It was found in this research that most of people die due to stroke every year. The research also emphasized on the after affects of stroke.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background

Every year lot of people dies because of stroke in United Kingdom. The second most common death cause is stroke in the United Kingdom. Apart from death, the strokes disturb the life of an individual. The stroke survival is left with lifelong affects and thus in this research the stats and the after affects of strokes are discussed in detail. (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence 2007 45)

Rationale

Due to the high mortality rate of stroke in UK the researcher took up this subject. This research would be useful and add to the existing research. This research will analyze the core concept of stroke in depth.

Research questions

This research aims to answer the following question

What is stroke?

What are the after affects of stroke?

How quality of life is affected by stroke?

What is the stroke survival rate in United Kingdom?

Reliability

The term reliability means that any research, no matter how many times it is done under any circumstances, it would always produce the same results. It will also produce same results even if it is applied to all the random members of any same target group. In reliability testing for academic phase, the questions are all measured together to produce accurate and authentic results for the research. One the other hand, in the commercial and practical phase, the questions are also put up in a consistent manner to produce results. Reliability in research is very different from validity. The most important consideration in reliability in research is on the kind of results that it produces. Reliability actually means that no matter how many times different agencies carry out a research on a particular subject or topic, the results should be same if they are authentic and reliable.
