Relations between the countries

The relationship between any country plays a major role in strengthening the defence system as well as protecting the national identity. The relations between Russia and Syria are warm. The Syrians and Russians are involved in many contracts such as exchange for modern weapons, which would provide, them with financial support from Iran. The Syrians have also signed agreements on the purchase of achieving the most modern defence systems. The political developments in Syria have played a major role in giving objective importance to the commonalities in Iran, with respect to Russian developments internationally and Middle Eastern regions. Because of their geopolitical and historical reasons, their interests, and concerns about national security, both countries are against the expansion of Western economical, military and political domination in their secondary areas (Rumer, 2000, p. 56).

Historically, relations between Russia and Iran have been characterized as economic, territorial and politically tense. During the reign of the last shah, Iran became an important ally of the United States in its policy of containment against the Soviet Union. At the conclusion of the Islamic revolution, relations remained tense, as the USSR was the main supplier of arms to Iraq during the Iran war fought between 1980 and 1988 (Amos, 2011, p. 145). Russia and Iran helped Syria import fuel which it needed for heavy vehicles including army tanks, allowing Damascus to avoid the full impact of tightening Western sanctions over its violent opposition. Today, Iran and Russia are occupying an important geopolitical position. They comprise of large reserves of strategically important minerals, more human resources and have a powerful military and economic potential (Weitz, 2010, p. 30). In addition to this, the arrival of Ahmadinejad in 2005, s increased Russia's concern about Iran's actions significantly. Russian officials have expressed their condemnation of the statements made by Ahmadinejad about Israel and the Holocaust. However, in 2006, President Vladimir Putin confirmed about positive relations between both countries with the following statements: Without exaggeration, Iran has been, partner throughout our history and our relations have evolved rapidly in recent years. Thus, the area of Iran is 1648 thousand square meters, is the largest in the territory of the state in the Middle East (more than twice the area of Turkey), which has outlets to the seas (1/3 sea borders of Iran). It facilitates economic ties with Iran in many countries around the world (O'Rourke, 2000, p. 56).

Iran and Syria relation

The situation around Iran is becoming confusing, unpredictable and, to some extent frightening. The official cause of "tightening the spring" tension, U.S. officials have repeatedly voiced is the unwillingness of the Iranian leadership to stop working as part of their "nuclear program (Kazemzadeh, Nasser, 2004, p. 34)." The main question of interest to everyone is that there will be another aggravation of relations between the U.S. and Iran to the beginning of a new armed conflict or a ...
