Chapter-01 INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Pregnancy in a female in between the ages of 13-19 years is referred to as teenage pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy has to face several difficulties related to emotional, social, financial and medical factors. The teen aged mothers face a great difficulty in bringing up the child because of low level of education. Therefore, they rely on funds provided by the government .This issue has been a centre of attention for ages due to impacts that is put on a society and to the individual as well. The rural areas of United States are more prone to the high rate of teenage pregnancy. There is disproportionate share for American teen births in rural areas. According to the study in 2010, the birth rate for girls between 15-19 years in rural community was 43/1000 that was around 1/3rd greater than the birth rate in metropolitan areas.

Purpose of the Study

This research will seek to identify the causes of teen age pregnancy in rural areas and the way to resolve this issue. Particularly, this study will involve the ways to educate teen age people of rural community to avoid the issue of teen age pregnancy. Moreover, this study will identify the barriers that are encountered by society in getting people aware of the issues and how the society will overcome these barriers.

This study will aim to obtain the following objectives:

To find out the causes of teen age pregnancy in rural areas.

To find out the effects of Teen age pregnancy.

To find out the medical issues related to teen age pregnancy.

To find out the barriers of educating people in rural areas regarding teen age pregnancy.

Chapter 02- LITERATURE REVIEW

Medical Issues

Many of the obstetrics effects of a teenage pregnancy are the same as those in women in their 20s and 30s but there are some additional aspects of medical concern for females who are younger than 15 years of age. Females in between 15 and 19 years have risks associated more with socioeconomic factors than medical issues at this age. But, research has shown that premature birth and low birth weight is a common problem on this scale as it is directly affected by the biological age itself. Maternal and prenatal health care is an area of particular concern in this issue. Usually teenage mothers receive prenatal care late in pregnancy often in 3rd trimester due to which their children are more prone to suffer from health issues most likely due to nutritional deficiencies.
