Introduction

This paper intends to clearly explain various scientific terms. All the terms selected for the purpose of this assignment are biology related. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the various important aspects related to all the different scientific terms. This paper does not intend to only define the terms rather a deep insight and clear explanation of all the terms will be provided in this paper.

Discussion

Bacterial Cell Wall

The bacterial cell walls are considered to be essential structures for viability. The cell wall is located outside the cell membrane. The bacterial cell walls are considered extremely important for the structural support and protection to the cells within the membrane. Moreover, these cell walls are also possessed with the responsibility of filtering the entire cell mechanisms. The cell walls the usually flexible and tough; however, they sometimes depict the qualities of being rigid enough for covering the specified types of cells (Guntram & Otto, 2002).

The basic functions that are associated with the bacterial cell walls include the function of pressure vessel and the prevention of water's over expansion within the cells. Bacterial cell walls are made of peptidoglycan. Bacterial cell walls are entirely different from those of plants and fungi. The cell walls are considered extremely essential for the survival of various bacteria. There are two different types of cell wall present in the bacteria which are known ad gram positive and gram negative bacteria cell walls (Guntram & Otto, 2002).

Fermentation

Fermentation is a type of anaerobic respiration. This is a process of releasing energy when free oxygen is absent from the environment. This is further referred to as the breakup of various carbohydrates and similar substances into further simple organic components. There are various organisms that undergo the process of fermentation with an aim to attain energy. This energy attainment becomes extremely important for the purpose of carrying on their life processes.

There are various organisms or microorganisms from which the process of fermentation can easily be traced. For instance, yeasts and other bacteria are considered to obtain their energy through the process of fermentation. Moreover, fermentation process is utilized in the production of foods which relates to the field of food and medicine. The process of fermentation can be easily traced in the process of making alcohol and ethanol. Fermentation done through oxidation of organic compounds can be traced in the field of biochemistry.

Virus

Viruses are assumed to be the agents that spread infections. Moreover, viruses are only present in the living cells of organisms and they possess the ability to replicate and multiply themselves within the living organisms. Viruses are extremely contagious and infectious. Viruses have the capability to impact all types of organisms including plants and animals. There are millions of different types of viruses that have been identified till the date. The word virus relates to the Latin language which basically means poison or other noxious substances (Natalie, 2004).
