The Aeneid

Introduction

The Aeneid was written in the final decade prior the birth of Jesus Christ. Aeneid is one of the finest works of author Virgil also one of the eminent poems based on history. The survivors of the fall of Troy are portrayed in the story narrated in The Aeneid. The poem uses Aeneas, the narrator name, to put in the picture of the survivors who made attempts discover a modern city. The Trojan survivors managed to escape, after the famous battle, to Carthage. Carthage is the urban center in the North of Africa where the Trojan survivors escaped and end up discovering the new city.

Aeneas shows the importance of his mission through future of Sibyl of Cumae, the famous Oracle. This was the place where his learning phase was set in motion with the realization that a mission is of sole importance in a person's life. Under the leadership of Remus and Romulus, the ones who name the city Rome, the new city was discovered, and from that time onwards, Aeneid are popular with the name of Romans.

The Aeneid revolves around three main characters: Aeneas, Dido and Turnus. Aeneas is the hero with Dido being the queen of Carthage city and Turnus is the protagonist.

Discussion

The will of God, to leave Carthage, was irresistible for Aeneas, though his act is beyond contempt. Even though, his character, portrayed by Virgil, reflects the care and compassion, the way he leaves Dido was with less expression of his feelings. His abandonment of the love of his life, Dido, gives a view his compassion for her was weaker than the decision he had made. His words were formal and strong when he spoke to Dido about the denial of their official marriage and the bond that kept them intact with each other. These ...
