Nutritional Assessment of the Patient's Nutritional Status

An ABCDE analysis will help explain the situation more clearly here. Whereas ABCDE refers to anthropometry assessment of the patient, the aspects of biochemistry, clinical assessment of the patient, dietary of the patient and environmental status of the patient.

Anthropometry includes some of the general physical and psychological traits of the patient. The patient under discussion, Doris Hamilton, is 74 years old female. An anthropometric approach is, in this particular case, is the relative noninvasive mechanism that caters with the body composition or size of an individual. Therefore, the most common aspect of anthropology approach includes weight, height and age and their combination. Hence, anthropometry in most cases is defined with the context of height with age, weight with age and height with weight of the patient. The patient is 74 years old and weighs 49 kg. Al though a proper analysis also requires the details of height of the patient. However with respect to age and height only, the patient can be considered a little underweight. Al though, if her height ranges from 4 to 5 fts, then she can be considered to have a stable weight and height criteria and declares that the patient is neither under weight or overweight in a general scenario. However, the doctors believe that disease of acute pyelonepritis might have been responsible for a little weight loss which is causing the weakness. Blood pressure and lean body mass are also two important factors of an anthropometric approach.

Aerobic competency is another judgment criterion for the anthropometric approach and it includes the ability to exercise breathing of oxygen for certain mechanisms within the body. The patient in this respect however, was not performing particularly. Because of her weakness and confused behavior on the first day of her being admitted, she wasn't able to walk or to show any other rapid movement. Therefore, the absence of rapid movements and activities and certain gestures resulted in the fact that the competency for now is nil. Moreover, the situation with respect to competency did not improve much even the second day although the patient felt better.

The final characteristic of an anthropometric is the psychological adaptability to stress. This evaluation characteristic of a patient includes his initial resistivity towards his diagnosed diseased, the trauma followed on realization and finally the time and willingness shown to deal with the situation. The patient in this case was confused of the happenings at the time when she was admitted. Moreover, her conditioned remained the same for some time period. However, after some rest and several nutritional meals, her condition improved by the second day.

The biochemistry criteria included laboratory values, mineral tests and tissue tests. The laboratory values encircles the percentages of acute uncomplicated cystitis, acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, complicated and catheter-assoc UTI ( urinary tract infection) of different microorganism responsible for the disease such as Enterococci, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Yeast, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Mixed and ...
