The Great Struggle of Anne Frank

Introduction

Set in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation, Anne Frank chronicles the life of 13 year old Anne and her family, who hid from the Nazis for 2 years. Anne was given a blank diary on her 13th birthday, and this diary was discovered after her death in 1945. Published for the first time in 1947, the diary is a unique record of Nazi occupation during World War II (Miller, p.116).

Discussion

As a youngster, Anne was lively and bright, not well thought-out by her parents to be as beautiful and intelligent as her sister, Margot, however even so loved for her personality and humor. She does not hide her consciousness of these feelings in her diary, and her bitterness for it perchance adds to the satire that it should be the name of Anne, more willingly than Margot's, that has turn out to be acknowledged to posterity (Frank, p.07). Conceivably this early, minor hardship fortified in Anne a determination to stand out in some way and to show her family and to the entire world that she was not just the sister of the talented and beautiful Margot Frank.

Anne in such a young age was greatly gifted, both as an individual of great sensitivity and as a writer. She could sense the feelings of herself and others and pen all this down to paper. The personality of Anne shines and sparkles on every single page of the diary. But nonetheless Anne's feelings are normal and so similar to those experienced by any youngster getting mature and being dealing with situations and individuals which he/she is not so far capable of coping with in an adult manner. One of the most outstanding features that emerge from the diary of Anne is the sense of the passion of the emotions that she practices as a teenager.

The 2nd child of Otto and Edith Frank, Anne was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Margot Betti Frank was Anne's elder sister. This was a liberal, middle class Jewish family who considered Germany their homeland; therefore it was a very hard decision for them to depart from Germany in 1933 and set up a completely new life in Amsterdam, far away from the anti Semitism of the recently authorized Nazis (Frank, p.8).
