ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study was to examine the sexual assault which is prevailing in the modern society along with its impact on the humanity. Regarding the impact of female sexual assault on heterosexual romantic relationships. Specifically, the implications of non-partner sexual assault were investigated.. The purpose of this study was to discover the impact of sexual assault who blame themselves tend to blame other survivors (survivor blame) in situations different from their own. Another purpose was to assess whether or not sexual assault survivors who do not blame themselves for their attack tend to blame other survivors. The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) (2008) reported that 10 out of 1000 people (1 %) over the age of 12 in the United States were victims of sexual assault in 2007. They used face-to-face interviews with persons over the age of 12 who have and have not reported crimes to law enforcement to compile their data. A quantitative approach was selected in order to examine this topic. It uses statistical models, theories, and hypotheses to measure the empirical associations found in natural phenomena Finally, in conclusion the researcher summarized the research and highlighted key points like Survivors are most often blamed in instances of date rape, or when the sexual assault survivor knew her attacker. The fear of the reactions of others toward the sexual assault survivor can cause them to not tell anyone about the incident or wait longer to report it. Furthermore, the researcher also gives scope for further research in the same study.

Sexual assault has been in existence since the dawn of civilization (Sarkar and Sarkar, 2005, p. 407). Despite its undeviating nature, there is confusion among the literature with respect to the definition of this crime and the correct vernacular to use when discussing it. For example, some authors are grounded in utilizing the very specific term "rape", while others utilize the more broad term of "sexual violence" (Fergusson and Horwood, 2002). Meanwhile, there is agreement that the term "rape" denotes unwanted sexual penetration, while several authors that report about "sexual assault" or "sexual violence" do not provide an overview of what acts are included / excluded within these boundaries. As a result, an understanding of the prevalence of sexual assault is also difficult to precisely measure (Dupre and Morrison, 1993).

Despite these challenges, a strong body of literature reporting ...
