The Innocent

Introduction

The innocent is one of the most famous horror films which are based on the novel “the innocent”. The movie and the name of the title is based on the same name novel. The novel “the innocent” is written by British writer Ian McEwen. This was published in the year 1990. The novel described the time which has taken place in the year 1955 to 1956. This period explains and analyzes the area Berlin at the beginning of the cold war and also focuses on the joint operation which was being constructed at the American sector of Berlin. The story revolves around a commander who used to repair all the tape recorders in the tunnel.

Discussion

The movie is about a soldier Leonard Marnham is described as the innocent of the novel. The officer has been employed by the American army in order to install all the signals and repair all kinds of tape recorders in the tunnel. The soldier Leonard is very cordial and close to Bob Glass who is most of the time obsessed with the security (Ewan, pp 48). Later on during the war, Leonard is selected as a spy and is sent to America in order to gain knowledge about their mission and preparations. With the passage of time, later in the story he meets a girl in one of the American bars name Maria. Maria thinks that the soldier Leonard is very innocent as he has never had sex before in his life with any other girl. After several meetings Leonard gets engaged with Maria. The story takes a u turn when Maria ex husband arrives and starts an alcoholic fight with Leonard. During the fight, in order to save Leonard, she kills her ex husband. The couple was aware they could not inform the police as they will have to dispose the body. Soon Leonard realizes that his relationship will not last for long due to dismembering. After some time, he realizes the Maria is having an affair with Bob, and decides not to come back to Maria (Ewan, pp 46)

The story is changed when both Maria and Leonard meet each other in their old age. Leonard receives a letter from Maria in which she explains that she was never loyal to him. She told him that she got married and has three children to glass. She married glass ...
