Introduction

The Innocent man: Murder and Injustice in a small town is one of the greatest works of John Grisham. Doubleday published this book in 2006. It is the only book non fictional work of the author. The story mainly focuses on the legal fiction and related issues. The book revolves around the real life character of Ron Willanson, a basketball player, who is falsely sentenced for murder and rape of Debbie Carter for a period of twelve years on death row. The book reflects the theme of legal drama and emphasized on the loopholes of our legal and justice system pertaining to the adverse and severe consequences of lost court cases' reality (Woolf. H. 2006).

Discussion

The author has tried to exhibit the unfairness and harshness of the judicial system practices in USA. As per author, one may agree to support and favor the death punishments and hard core imprisonments but it would be very unethical and insensitive if one too supports the system favoring death penalties. The title of the book also reflects the harshness of the system and how its misleading and cruel decisions turned the life of an innocent, potential and hardworking basketball player into misery. Ron had already suffered from great depression due to his diseases and lost career.

The police system was very much convinced of Ron being murderer on the basis of his behavior and little evidence. Ron went through even more depression due to this disastrous event. We can also see justice system's inhumanity and wrong interpretation that they did not corporate with Ron even after knowing about his illness, anger and personal frustration. It made him more wild and angry during sessions. These factors made opposing parties more convinced regarding Ron's sins, which he never had committed. It ...
