Overview

The concept of the Kingdom of God builds on the ancient oriental name of the supreme god El as the "king". The predicate of God, "King" appeared in the history of Israel since the time of King which is around 1000-586 BC. This predicate of God was in the exilic and post-exilic prophecy and apocalyptic associated with different ideas. These ideas included a set by his universal lordship of God in the Torah which revealed the salvific will. Additionally, it included the idea of the liberation of all the Israelites of syncretism, exile and foreign rule, a notion that the judgment was connected to overturning a creation of the world. God's kingdom behaves, according to Jewish and Christian traditions, not as a complementary, surpassing and Hedge, but limited and qualified. It criticized all human exercises of power and all earthly regimes as their ultimate future. The term, therefore, plays a significant role in millenarianism, messianism and political theology.
