The Korean War

Introduction

The Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when the Soviet-backed the” pro-Western Republic of Korea” to the south and “Democratic People's Republic of Korea” to the north and the boundary was created, by then the North Korean People's Army send 75,000 soldiers across the 38th parallel. This became the first military action-invasion of the Cold War. And on behalf of South Korea, American troops entered. This was the war in opposition to the forces of international communism itself, some American officials stated. The Korean War ended in July 1953, losing the lives of 5 million civilians and soldiers. And to till date the Korean peninsula is still separated (www.history.com).

Origin of the Korean War

There was no aggression against South Korea, planned by Stalin until the end of 1949. But instead he was worried that the South would attack and he tried everything which could avoid aggravating Seoul & Washington. In 1947-1948, there was still a belief by the Soviet leaders that there was a possibility of uniting Korea and that's why they refused to sign a “separate friendship and cooperation treaty” with (N. Korean leader KIM ll Sung). Kremlin was alerted about the increasing numbers of violations at 38th parallel by the Soviet Union in the beginning of 1949. The north Koreans lacked trained personnel, enough arms and enough amount of bullets to rebuff rising attacks from the South was informed to the Soviet Ambassador bitterly. Stalin Disagrees On Kim's Insist on War

There was a lot of pressure by the North Koreans on Kremlin which was demanding permission to liberate the South while Stalin was trying to prevent the war in 1949. But on 7th March 1949 (Kim ll Sung) said: (We believe that the situation makes it necessary and possible to liberate the whole country through military means) while the Soviet leader disagreed which showed the military's weak point of the North mutually discussed by Stalin and Kremlin that if Pyongyang, N Korea was attacked by the adversary then military unification could try counter attacking and the chief agreed by saying that the move will be understood by everyone. The pressure was resumed by the N Korean leaders on Moscow hoping to influence that: the Korean people were expecting freedom and would not resist on reunification, it was totally impossible for a peaceful reunification, Southern armed forces were not superior than the Northern, the 38th parallel lost its meaning when America withdrew its troops from Korea, using counter attack for the purpose of reunification was not possible anymore and the offensive plan against North that Seoul had postponed.
