Introduction

The movie is based on an epic tale of 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first unit of black soldiers that took part in fight an American Civil war. Col. Robert Gould Shaw, a progressive minded individual leads the troop. The College mate of Shaw and his close friend, Thomas Searles, who is a free born African American, joins the party in which most of the individuals are proud and ex slaves without education.
