Introduction

This essay will attempt to highlight a number of key areas on the basis of the ten minute movie clip from the movie The Other Sister. The discussion will begin by presenting a reflection that was apparent during the initial viewing of the movie clip. The relevance of this reflection is that it mirrors the unaltered and genuine perceptions that come forth for the audience as a result of the movie. In essence, the reflection presents an insight into the movie clip and the fundamentals of the movie. The discussion will then move to highlight the elements of communication, motivation, negotiation, conflict and teamwork in the movie. It merits highlighting at this point that the purpose of the discussion is not to analyse the entire movie. The purpose is to highlight these key areas with regard to the ten minute clip given for this movie.

Discussion

The redecoration of room left the girl (Carla) surprised, and her body language shows that she did not like the unwanted redecoration of her room (Travers, 1999). Whereas, her mom is willing to make her live like a grown up girl. The verbal communication of the girl reflects that her actual growth is not similar to her cognitive growth. The body language of the mother shows that she worries about the childish attitude of her daughter and wants her to live like a grown up girl instead of living like a child (Marshall, 2005). The mother tried to convince Carla that she has made a commitment to her of taking more responsibility. Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory stress that the need for self esteem is among the basic human needs, and in the first scenes of the movie it can be observed that the Carla feels that her self esteem suffers because her mother has removed the things from her room, which she love the most (Goessling, 1999). From the scene, it can also be observed that Carla is having some psychiatric problem, and to cure Carla's problem her mom is changing her belongings.

Carla has closed her eyes while her mom was describing the change, this creates the barrier in communication and her mother quickly realized that Carla is not responding to the change positively. In another scene in which Carla and her mom was having a conversation while wearing night suits and preparing to go for sleep, shows Carla's optimism to embrace the changes in her life (Klawans, 1999). Her mother while in the later scenes seems too frustrated for Carla's unresponsive nature to change, which her mother was trying to make part of her life so that she can live a normal life like ordinary people. The conversation between Carla's mom and dad depicts her disappointment to her daughter's actions. In order to make Carla acceptable among mainstream society, her mom takes her to shopping.
