In 476 after the decline of Roman Empire, the Western Europe got involve in a mess with various tribes that were trying to dominate. Not one tribe was successful in re-conquering major parts of the Western Roman Empire. Then in late 700s, Charlemagne came in as a King. Charlemagne became the Franks' King, and he had the ability to conquer many of the competitive clans in the part of the Western Europe. Therefore, he united majority of the region partially due to the spread of Christianity religion. However, in 814, after the death of Charlemagne, Western Europe was then again filled with chaos and there was no strong leader to lead. None of the tribes had the ability to maintain the peace and strength required for a nation to progress.
