Theme of the Surah

The surah starts with the notion that ALLAH(S.W.T.) is the Lord of all mankind. The word Nas is an Arabic for “Mankind”. The surah later on teaches the reader and believer to seek refuge in ALLAH from the Satan and other creatures that have lead themselves towards the path of evil i.e. evil jinn and evil people. The surah is an appeal or an invocation to seek refuge from every evil deed, either voluntarily or involuntarily. The surah is similar to the other surah named as Surah Al-Falaq, whereby that surah contains the invocation too.

Kind of Language used in Surah

The Surah intends to convey the message regarding refraining themselves from the whispers of the Satan and evil jinn and evil mankind. The kind of language used in the Surah is therefore didactic because ALLAH (S.W.T.) wants HIS believers and all mankind to learn about who is the real LORD of the whole mankind and one should seek refuge in HIM. The didactic approach is an approach when one is intending to instruct something. ALLAH (S.W.T.) therefore, instructs mankind about their LORD, KING or the real GOD and advices them to seek refuge in HIM from the evil prevailing around you because HE is the only true helper.

Audience

The whole Quran is intended to address the whole mankind and therefore, the last surah endorses the same. Surah An-Nas addresses the whole mankind in this universe. The non-believers and distracters, distracting the believers have been quoted as evil men, and evil jinn are the one that do evil, in the Surah An-Nas. Jinn is an Arabic for hidden creature. The whole mankind is advised and invocated in the Surah.
