The Willingness to Support (WITS) of Communities that Care

Abstract

The aim of this research proposal is to gain an understanding about some of the strategies undertaken for the purpose of reducing delinquencies and crimes from local communities. The research aims at understanding how evidence based practices specifically as communities that care can be used for the purpose of effectively dealing with juvenile crimes. The study also helps explain how evidence based practices can be incorporated within communities in an effective manner.

The Willingness to Support (WITS) of Communities that Care

Chapter: 01 Background of Study

Evidence based practice can be considered as a combination of expertise and knowledge of the best external research. Establishing EBP's are important since they provide the people who are willing to bring some form of change the opportunity to do so based on past evidence. Thus providing the researcher the comfort of having proper evidence regarding the outcome of any situation. Evidence based researches have recently gained popularity due to the nature of using such practices in situations like the one in this study are all issues that need a collaborative effort in order to be dealt with. This research proposal will focus on evidence based programs (called EBS henceforth) by communities that care (called CTC henceforth). Modern policies are prioritizing on the reduction of crimes and violence through problem solving which is considered to be the most appropriate method of doing so, recently many cases have been identified which require work such practices to be performed with the general community or with other agencies with the sole purpose of reducing the increasing rates of crimes by youth (Piquero and Steinberg, 2010).

Juveniles are consistently associated with criminal activities and the statistics are quite alarming. In the year 2006 the arrest of young boys represented more than 70% of the total juvenile arrests, in the same year 20% people arrested for violent crimes were under the age of 18 (John et al, 2011). There is much need to identify appropriate methodologies that can aid in reducing these statistics and ultimately reducing juvenile delinquencies, however there is considerable debate over the appropriate method which can be used for the purpose of significantly reducing the crime rates and establishing a more secure community for people to live in (John et al, 2011).

Communities that care is a rather recent initiative taken by communities that aim at reducing juvenile delinquency and developing a healthy community and also helping the youth, since researches significantly prove that the youth will always be associated with crime and violence it is crucial to be able to devise an appropriate course of action that can protect the youth and aid them at ameliorating their behavior and refraining them from criminal activities. In spite of all the research aimed at helping the youth develop into productive citizens have been limited for this purpose the CTC system was devised that helped reduce the existing gap(Silverman, 2004). This research aims at understanding how effective CTC systems are at reducing juvenile delinquency and how ...
