Introduction

Thomas Jefferson is considered as one of the most prominent philosopher and statesman in the history of America and is known as the founding father of America. He was the chief author of the Independence Declaration of 1776 and became the third president of the US in the period 1801-1809. In his public life, Jefferson wished to be acknowledged for achievements, which are written on hi tomb. They include; “The author of American Declaration”, “The author of Virginia Statute for the religious freedom” and “The father of Virginia University”. Jefferson is a man of inspiration for many politicians and philosophers due to his valuable accomplishments.

Childhood and Education

Jefferson spent his childhood in Virginia, US, and was raised along with the orphaned children of one of his father's friends. As a child, he had learnt Greek, Latin and French languages. He attended Reverend and James Mary's School, William and Mary College and then studied law the first American law professor, George Wythe.

Early Career

Jefferson served sometime in the early life in the House of Burgesses from 1769-1774. He then became a member of Correspondence Committee and went against the actions of Britain. He worked as a participant of Continental Congress from 1775-1776 and as the participant of Virginia House of Delegates 1776-1779. During some of the time of Revolutionary War from 1779-1781, he represented Virginia as the Governor. He wrote the Independence Declaration in 1783-1784 while working as a second member of Continental Congress.

Events Leading to the Presidency

The president of Washington selected Thomas Jefferson as the first State Secretary. He has an argument with Treasury Secretary “Alexander Hamilton” on the decision how to deal with the Britain and France. Hamilton wanted a firm federal government in comparison with Jefferson.
