Application of Toyota Production System

Abstract

This research paper aims to provide significant information about the important components of Toyota's Production System and also provide application of TPS in health care services. Health care services can use the approach of lean manufacturing in their processes and procedures but not to a very large extent. It also explains the importance of TPS in Hospitals.

Application of Toyota Production System

The Toyota Production System

The Toyota serves as the leading brand in automobile industry. The success of the company totally depends on its efficient and effective production and manufacturing process. The production System of Toyota is the world's best system and also known as Lean manufacturing. Toyota makes improvements in its production system by implementing them effectively in every day practices. The main goal of Toyota's production system is to bring highest customer satisfaction by providing them with the best services. Employee's best efforts make it possible for them to achieve highest profits by cost reduction method and to achieve long term goals. Many other companies throughout the world are following some components of Toyota's manufacturing system in their operations including service industries as well.

Components of Toyota Production System

Toyota Production system strives to eliminate all unevenness, wastes and overburden from all areas of its production so that it employees can work efficiently and smoothly. The Toyota production System has laid its foundation on the concept of standardization so that they can gain consistent approach towards their operations and procedures. The two main components of Toyota's Production System (Lean Manufacturing) are Just-In-Time and Jidoka. The other components are customer satisfaction, standardisation, kanban and kaizen. These two components give rise to the other principles of lean manufacturing.

Just-In-Time Approach

Toyota uses Just in Time approach for bringing smoothness in its operations. They keep a complete record of the materials such as what material is needed, when it is needed and how much quantity it requires (Toyota,2013). JIT approach makes it easier for the company to reduce its cost of materials and also reduce its expenditures in the supply chain operations. Just In Time also makes it sure to provide employees with the enough information related to the materials and operations. This approach is basically invented by Toyota but now it has gained popularity among all the organizations of the world and it has been used by many companies in their manufacturing processes. Just-In-Time approach in manufacturing also allows monitoring the daily processes of the production. The ultimate result of using this approach is that staff is provided with the right material and right parts at the right time whenever they ...
