Treatment Plan

Introduction

This assignment explains that addicted criminal have more psychological, social and health related problems as compared to other criminal. These clients also have distinctive challenges for the treatment because of their complex psychological problems related to their addiction. The Eagleville Recovery Program develops a unique and distinctive treatment plan for each of its clients by assessing their educational, medical, vocational, psychosocial and psychiatric history (Smart, 1984). Each individual has to first take out the Group therapy because it is necessary in the treatment. Clients in criminal addiction are usually doing not listen to the suggestions of family but prefer to take suggestions from their colleagues and peers.

There is also a need to provide work therapy to the clients as it can enhance the self esteem of the clients and provides him an opportunity to realize his strengths. It has been observed that there are some characteristics of chronic disease which are common in all clients such as the treatment for all chronic diseases is effective but still there is no cure of the disease. These chronic diseases are critical and often progressive. The client has to take personal responsibility for effective management of the disease because a single break in the treatment can lead to relapse (Chandler, 2009). It is important to educate addicted criminals about their disease and risks associated with the disease. There is a need of understanding the modification of the disease for the client because it is the only way for serious treatment.

Different people are involved in the evaluation of the client such as social worker evaluates the psychosocial condition, teacher evaluates the education and a vocational counselor evaluates vocational status of the client (Weriner et al, 1997). The client also sent for the physical test in the laboratory and family therapy also takes place if there is a need. After completing the assessments, the director of the recovery process prepares a summary of the assessments and prepares a treatment plan for the individual (Van Der Helm et al, 2012).

The case study which has been presented in the assignment explains that Mr. Doe was in incarceration because he was addicted to whiskey, wine and gin. Initial assessment of Mr. Doe shows that there are some external factors which contribute towards the deployment of his personality. The initial assessment indicates that Mr. Doe was in good health before the incarceration and he did not know that addiction is a disease; he has developed this understanding after the assessment. His life background indicates that institutions and women had played a significant role in his life. It also shows that he was willing to take treatment just for leaving the jail. The assessment gives evidence there is no supporter of the Mr. Doe in the society.
