Cardiac Troponin

Troponin is a complex protein that sensitizes cells muscle to calcium. Troponin is a complex of three regulatory proteins (troponin C, troponin I and troponin T) that is integral to muscle contraction in skeletal and cardiac muscle, but not smooth muscle. Discussions of troponin often pertain to its functional characteristics and/or to its usefulness as a diagnostic marker for various heart disorders. Troponin is a heterotrimeric protein. There are three distinct subunits in the troponin:

Troponin C (TnC)

This subunit is responsible for binding with calcium . Once the bound calcium troponin calcium moves and ceases to prevent binding between myosin and actin. TnC has a strong similarity between the shape heart and skeletal shape, making it impossible to obtaining monoclonal antibodies and excluding any clinical relevance. Troponin C is capable of binding calcium ions and complex active subunit. Joining the subunits is Tn I and Tn T, but does not interact with actin and tropomyosin with.

Troponin I (TnI)

This subunit is responsible for the inhibition of the binding between actin and myosin (masking the site of actin which serves to connect with the myosin). It has a function that inhibitory effect of initiating muscle relaxation. TnI has three isoforms, respectively specific skeletal muscle fast twitch muscle (muscle fibers consisting essentially of type 2 (white)), the slow-twitch skeletal muscle (muscle muscle fibers composed substantially of Type 1 (red fibers)) and heart (cTnI).

Troponin T (TnT)

This subunit is responsible for binding with tropomyosin. TnT exists in skeletal isoforms 5-12 (TnTs) and 4 cardiac isoforms (cTnT).

Structure

Each of the three subunits are almost globular tertiary structure (except for the C subunit, which has a double helical fibrous portion globular ends) and receive a specific name which is directly related to the functional feature are performed.
