Trouble Minds Terrifying Outcomes

The cases of people suffering from mind problems have been increasingly becoming common in the United States. The mass shooting in the town of CT, Newton during December 2012 is an example of the devastating consequences that can result from these individuals. Adam 20-years old was held responsible for killing his mother while she as sleeping at her home. Later Adam took off in her car and reached the Elementary School of Sandy Hook at around 9:30pm. Adam was wearing a military styled vest along with black fatigues. He entered into two distinct classes and started shooting people without giving a warning. In that sad incident, 26 people lost their lives including 20 children. Lanza shot himself as he was surrounded by the police during the time he was committing massacre in the second classroom (Kalish, 2010) (Kalish, 2010).

Discussion

The last three decades in the history of the United States has seen more than 30 school shooting massacres in which the student (committing the rampage) starts firing in the classroom. This results in the death of his classmates along with the teacher conducting the class. These incidents appear throughout the course of three decades at random (Kimmel and Mahler 2010, P451-464; Newman et al. 2004). A large number of the student who is involved in these inhumane acts usually end up taking their lives as it appears to be the safest way to avoid the penalty and shame of committing the crime. There have been numerous research studies that have been carried out over the recent years to understand the psychological assertions that lead these young students to mental illness resulting in terrifying consequences (Kalish, 2010) (Kalish, 2010).

Few of the conservators put the blame on the saturated cultures that prevailed in the country during the 1960s. They comment that the teachers and mothers of that era did not want to have children and hence the mother/teacher and son/student relationship was not very strong. However, others put the blame on the large number of restrictions that the society poses on homogenous, and evangelicals. There was a shift in the school shootings from 1982 onwards from the lethal school violence that existed in the late years. In the early years, school shootings were carried out as a response to the ethical and racial indifferences present in the American society. A Negro might end up using his handgun to target specifically selected targets due to a chain of specific events that led him to commit the massacre.

The large number of cases of similar cases in that time brought the attention of the authorities to using security procedures and strategies that could help in identifying such naysayers early. This consisted of deploying three distinct strategies including the usage of metal detectors in schools, employing armed personnel for security purposes in the inner city schools, and using various statistical analysis techniques to identify the students who might be developing and showing signs that are exhibited by mind troubled ...
